Coffee in Service to our Collective Future

Last year, we joined the ranks of the more than 10,000 businesses around the world who believe their position in the world comes with responsibility to people and planet.

B Corp certification standards recognize businesses committed to higher standards of social and environmental responsibility, transparency, and accountability. For us, certification is a reflection of values we’ve been working toward for years, the values that are imperative if we want a future for coffee.

Here’s what that looks like at Wonderstate.

5% Giving Program

Each year, we give 5% of our profits to support the people and ecosystems that make coffee possible. We see giving as part of our responsibility to the our local community and larger coffee community, not simply an extension of our business. Our Giving Program supports a range of work, including:

~Coffee farmers and growing communities
~Environmental stewardship and regenerative agriculture
~Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives
~Coffee education and research
~Local community organizations
~Gender equity in coffee-growing regions

Shared Success

We believe the people doing the work should share in the outcome. Through our annual profit share program, 10% of company profits are distributed to Wonderstate employees. It’s one way we can share the success we create together and recognize the contributions of the people who make our company what it is.

Paying Farmers More

Coffee prices can fluctuate significantly, often without regard for the livelihoods of the people growing the coffee. In 2017, we established a minimum price we pay to coffee producers, creating a floor that remains in place even when market prices fall below it. We believe paying farmers more is one of the most meaningful ways we can support a healthier, more sustainable coffee supply chain.

Our commitment to producers is rooted in long-term relationships, more equitable compensation, and the understanding that the future of coffee depends on the people who grow it.

Solar Since 2015

In 2015, we became one of the first solar-powered coffee roasteries in the world. Today, renewable energy remains an important part of how we approach our environmental impact. Powering our roastery with the sun is one tangible way we can reduce our carbon footprint and build sustainability into the journey from green coffee to roasted.

Proud to Be a B Corp

B Corp certification reflects our commitment to operating with greater accountability across our business, from how we support coffee producers and our employees to how we think about our impact on the environment and our communities.

We don’t see certification as a finish line. It gives us a framework for measuring where we are, identifying where we can do better, and continuing to raise the bar for ourselves.

Coffee is about so much more than what’s in the cup.
