About the Coffees

ALO Village Anaerobic Washed
This anaerobic washed selection from the ALO main station is a triumph that demonstrates how specialized processing can intensify and elevate the inherent terroir of coffee. This pushes the boundaries of what a washed coffee can be, creating a gorgeous, transcendent experience.

Faficho Village Red Honey
The ALO Faficho Village red honey process coffee is a wildly captivating experience. You’ll immediately taste syrupy fruit tones of raspberry and effervescent blood orange, which transform into luscious layers of red flame grape and finish with classic tones of
jasmine tea. Thoroughly sugary, juicy, and crafted to perfection.

Chilaka Village Peaberry Natural This peaberry selection from the Chilaka village may just be our favorite coffee of the year. You’ll experience a plethora of dark and resonant fruit flavors like jammy blueberries and blackberries, followed by touches of tropical fruit such as mango, and finishing with ample florality of bergamot. This coffee is plump, punchy, and deep, delivering layers of intense fruitiness and florality.

About Tamiru and the Smallholder Farmers of Chilaka and ALO Village

Tamiru’s journey to becoming a legend of Ethiopian coffee began in Bensa Woreda, Sidama, where coffee was more than a crop—it was a way of life. Growing up among smallholder farmers who relied on coffee for their livelihood, Tamiru witnessed their struggles. Despite producing high-quality coffee, these farmers had limited market access, which left them with few opportunities to improve their situation.

In 2020, amid global uncertainty, Tamiru took a bold step by founding his coffee washing station and export company, ALO. He started by purchasing coffee cherries from local farmers and exporting them to specialty markets in Southeast Asia, eventually expanding to Europe. This brought Sidama’s coffee to a broader audience, and Tamiru’s dedication paid off when his coffee won first place in the prestigious Cup of Excellence in 2021.

Today, Tamiru is celebrated as a visionary leader in Ethiopia and beyond. Farmers who once had limited prospects are now earning higher wages and receiving recognition for their work. Thanks to Tamiru’s efforts, coffee from Sidama is enjoyed worldwide, in cities from Tokyo to Berlin—and even in our little corner of rural Wisconsin.
