Position Overview

The Director of Sales and Marketing leads Wonderstate Coffee's sales and marketing efforts and is responsible for brand development, growth strategy and execution, content generation, communications, and budget oversight, as well as people management. Working closely with key stakeholders, the Director of Sales and Marketing maintains Wonderstate's external identity and engages customers through all business channels and media. This position also works closely with the General Manager of Cafes to plan and execute marketing strategies for the Wonderstate cafes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales strategies and business development opportunities to achieve intentional growth in coordination with company goals while maintaining world-class customer support services.
  • Manage brand identity through creative direction, editorial strategy, social media management, public relations, and communications to internal and external customers.
  • Create and maintain marketing strategies and campaigns to execute company growth objectives.
  • Lead the e-Commerce team to create sustained growth on Wonderstate’s DTC channels (web, subscriptions, and cafe sites) as well as with third-party e-Comm platforms.
  • Build an events and outreach team, including key staff members, an annual calendar, and clear objectives.
  • Provide marketing support to both roastery and cafe businesses, looking to maximize brand footprint and reach while creating redundancies and cohesion among marketing efforts between business units. 
  • Analyze product and channel performance, leading rationalization and innovation efforts in coordination with key stakeholders. 
  • Develop KPI tracking and reporting structures to keep all stakeholders informed of real-time performance of all sales and marketing activities, including key contributions to Monthly Business Reporting. 
  • Budget creation and accountability for both Sales and Marketing departments, including department expense reporting, cost projections, and invoice management.
  • Personnel management via servant leadership and honoring relationships, actively coaching and contributing to a positive team environment.  
  • Champion the brand and drive knowledge and excitement internally to ensure alignment of all staff to the overarching brand goals and momentum.

Supervisory responsibilities—this position directly manages both the sales and marketing teams

  • 5 years of experience in sales or marketing required
  • Experience managing complex projects with budget accountability
  • Minimum 2 years experience in coffee and/or specialty food/beverage industry preferred.
  • Previous people management experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field preferred
Physical Requirements
  • This position may be approved to work remotely within driving distance of Viroqua, though weekly on-site work at the roastery/office location  is required
