About the Producer

We love keeping a single origin decaf coffee on our menu as the global harvests ebb and flow. It gives decaf lovers an opportunity to enjoy the nuances and unique flavor profiles of a given region. Our latest, fresh crop, single origin decaf is from the Valle Verde Cooperative in Northern Peru. We were introduced to this cooperative through our exporting partner Origin Coffee Lab. Four years ago we purchased an outstanding yellow caturra lot from the president of Valle Verde, Alex Cabrera. The majority of the cooperative’s coffee now comes from the famous mountains stretching across the very northern parts of the country around Jaen, just South of the border of Ecuador. Valle Verde’s membership includes over 350 families, a modest sized group by Peruvian standards.

About the Coffee

We use in-season, organic coffees that are decaffeinated with the celebrated "Mountain Water Process" (MWP). Unlike many decafs on the market that employ chemicals in this process, MWP gently removes caffeine in a pure water solution that floats coffee oils to the surface (caffeine included), filters out the caffeine, and reintroduces the original oils to the green coffee. The result is a great coffee, no qualifiers.

Why We Love It

In specialty coffee, using the word decaf solicits a myriad of responses, most of which are negative. The prevailing stereotype is that decaf coffees are flat, flavorless and unrepresentative of their original characteristics. But our decaf coffees are a different story. You can expect to find tremendous sweetness and chocolatey depth with just a kiss of maple syrup on the mellow aftertaste. This is the perfect fall and winter Decaf!
